Thanks for your visit and comments Robert...I have just bought a new DSLR OLYMPUS E-410 and was trying out the limits of the lens. I thought it did well for a kit lens. I got the 410 to use on the hiking trail because of it's size and because the camera and lens are so light. We'll see how it holes up on the trail...D

Hi Robert ... Appreciate your comment at Distractions #1 Thanks for trying to identify the butterfly. I tried searching the internet without success for "Wondering Monarch" and "Wandering Monarch" in case there was a typo. Oddly enough the following day I received the latest Feb/Mar issue of "Birds & Blooms". My butterfly was one of the featured articles. It's called an "American Lady" and apparently quite common. Thanks again my friend for your kind support.

The Canyons in the Southwest are very impressive... to me anyway. Every rock formation has a name such as Balanced Rock, Flagpole Rock etc: etc: As the day goes by the rocks change to different shades of red, gold, pink. and the shadows are always changing the scene.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions on "Brrr!" I did consider cropping more since that heap of ice and snow in the lower left is not so pretty, but I rather like the perspective of looking down on the mallard in his icy little nook. Also, I've accidentally deleted the full-resolution image :-/

There's a good number of mallards who winter here in Ottawa, and they seem to get by no matter how cold it becomes! The weather was in the single digits (Fahrenheit) the day I took that photo.

Hello Tris,
Yes, I have a Canon 180 macro. It is a fantastic lens;sharp. great color, a big lens but very manageable. It really blurs out the background on macros. The biggest advantage of this "long distance" lens is that you can shoot insects from enough distance so that you don't scare them to death, yet it looks like you got right in their faces. Great for flowers too. It's not a cheap lens. It is one of Canon's L lenses. Constant aperture of f/3.5.

Cappadoica Turkey..... where vacant cave homes were located in the side of mountains, empty but they still had a plaque outside of each cave with a address number. I walked up and down along the hill looking inside of old abandoned cave homes, when I reached the far side I found some fairy rock and mushrooms formations. The scenery was very beautiful and unusual Some of the caves are now shops selling handmade plates, rugs, bowls and vases to tourists. Most of the cave dwellings were abandoned when the people moved down into the valley and built real houses to live in.

Hey, thanks for the constructive criticism. I was aware of the fact that it faded out into the sky, and I also was aware of the green tinge. However I didn't think either would really affect the image. I think now if I were to do it over again, I'd make only the big parts of the bridge green, and I'd make sure it didn't fade into the sky. In fact I think I'm going to pull it up in the 'shop right now, than you!

Thanks for your comment on "God's living Rainbow".

I took that one a long time ago. It is in "Reptile Gardens" In South Dakota. If you're ever in the area, I'd reccomend it. It's a neat place, and they have lots of animal shows during the tourist season. For a photographer, they might let you Get some better pictures of the animals. I'm only amateur, and I only have an old 2 megapixel digital, so I didn't even bother to ask.

Thanks again.
