Mystery Machine by Lightpainter

Lightpainter:
questjester (Lisa Hickman) has suggested to the contestants that we reveal our subject after the entries are closed. I think this is a good idea because it sheds some light on the photographer's thinking which may be as important as the subject itself.

So here is my revelation:

This is indeed a telescope as some of you have guessed. But it is an unusual one. It is a 1.8 meter diameter mirror telescope with a focal length similar to the diameter. This gives it an f number of 1.0 (something we photographers seldom use). Hence it is short and squat, rather than long and slender. You can also see it is inside a typical observatory building with a hemispherical roof.

Another interesting fact is that it belongs to the Vatican. It is located on Mt. Graham near Safford, AZ.

Mt. Graham is also the site of two other telescopes. One is a radio telescope, the other is a really enormous optical one (the Large Binocular Telescope, two mirrors 9m diameter each).

What Is It? by corngrowth

0930_23: It looks like a robot with a smaller robot on top of it with a cat on top of all of them SEA. Could be an ice cream establishment's sign.

purmusic: I'm thinking..

Top of a birdhouse.
As in, a predatory guard.. with.. a perch.

Cat? Check.

Erhm.. some kind of person/sculpture/carving in a suit/uniform of sorts (running from astronaut, parachutist, bylaw officer.. and and..). Check?

Perch? Check.

Those guesses aside..

Very colourful and interesting image. Keeps you transfixed for a while.

And..

But, of course.. thank you for sharing this one with us.

And..

Best of luck in the contest.

What is this? by Ramad

gonedigital: What is this?

Sorry Raj can't help you the photographs field of focus is very shallow and blurred in places so I can't discern precise details. Or perhaps you deliberately blurred sections yourself.
Guessing I'd say it's either a computer mouse, game control or some sort of mariners navigation unit.
You produce some fine work Raj (o: and hope you aren't offended by my valid critique.

This is Phlossys sixth comment folks and please don't stone me for being honest, thank you.
